The \(CO_{2}\) Electrolysis Process
An electrolyzer consists of an anode, a cathode, and an electrolyte. [1, 2]
- At the anode:Â Water (\(H_{2}O\)) is oxidized to produce oxygen, protons, and electrons.
- At the circuit:Â The electrons are driven through an external circuit by the electrical input, while the protons travel to the cathode.
- At the cathode: Carbon dioxide is combined with the protons and electrons to form new molecules. [1]
